Tooth Tips to Keep You on Track This Summer

Road trips, campouts and impromptu sleepovers don’t have to wreak havoc on your dental health.

Here’s a few tips to keep you on track:

Create Tooth Care Kits
Pick up travel-sized toothbrushes, tooth pastes, floss and mouthwash. Put one of each in a zipped pouch or plastic bag. Have a few ready so you can quickly toss it into a suitcase or overnight bag. Consider keeping one in the car too. If you are heading to a campsite, include a small bottle of water to rinse.

Grab Some Gum
Sugar-free gum can help reduce plaque and cavities. Chewing it increases the production of saliva, breaking down the bacteria that causes tooth decay. So grab a piece, particularly if you aren’t able to brush right after a meal.

Feast on Tooth-Friendly Foods
According to the American Dental Association, crunchy fruits and veggies like apples and raw carrots, celery, broccoli and cauliflower are natural toothbrushes. They help remove build-up, in addition to stimulating saliva protection to help wash away harmful acids and food particles.

Have Plenty of H2O on Hand
Water helps wash away food particles and cavity-causing bacteria, so drink plenty of it, especially after meals and snacks. The mini, 8 oz bottles work great when you are on-the-go.
