Savor Your Health, Consume Smart

It is said that you are what you eat. And, for some that’s a pretty scary thought – especially after just downing another large value meal from a fast food establishment, simply because it was convenient.

The fact of the matter is that food consumption is a necessity designed to give the body the energy needed to survive. But, making the right choices to ensure you are eating a well-balanced diet goes beyond being able to fit in a favorite pair of jeans. It plays a huge part in fighting disease and establishing and maintaining overall health and wellness.

In recognition of National Nutrition Month, be challenged to make some simple changes to your diet. Add in more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat milk products, lean meats, fish, beans, eggs and nuts. And, try to minimize the consumption of saturated and trans fats, sodium and added sugars. The United State Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Choose MyPlate illustration is a great guide for helping you find the right mix.
