Take Your Loved One to the Doctor Day: And the Dentist Too!

“Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day” is a national campaign encouraging people to take charge of their own health and encourage their loved ones to do the same. The message is all about prevention and letting people know that going to the doctor, working out and eating right are necessary tools for a longer, happier and healthier life.

And oral health is no different. By practicing good oral health habits, you can prevent nearly all oral disease and pain.

The main oral habits you and your loved ones should be practicing are:

  • Brush teeth for two minutes, two times a day
  • Floss every day
  • Visit the dentist twice a year
  • Do not use tobacco
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet

That’s it. Pretty simple really, but more than a third of American adults do not even visit the dentist once a year!

Regular dental checkups and cleanings help you avoid tooth decay and gum disease. Even if you don’t have symptoms of gum disease, dental exams are important no matter your age. Untreated cavities and gum disease can lead to tooth loss. Visiting a dentist two times a year can help prevent oral disease and catch problems early, when they are easier to treat.

So, this year on “Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day,” swing by the dentist too!
